You’ve recently joined the Clackamas team with NW Staffing. Tell us a bit about your background and what made you pursue the move to Account Executive with NW Staffing?
When I was first out of college, I recruited for Abercrombie and Fitch and then Placer Title Company during the real estate boom of the early 2000’s in California, where I grew up. I moved from Recruiting to Sales with Placer Title and loved it! Shortly after, my husband and I became pregnant with quadruplets, three girls and a boy. My focus shifted to our babies and I became a stay at home mom. As much as I loved being home with my children, my mind was always bored. I wanted more. I began blogging and taught myself how to design and operate websites. This led to a position at St. Francis High School, in Sacramento, my Alma mater, where I became the Webmaster and later found myself in the classroom. I loved teaching!
Five and a half years ago, my husband Conor, accepted the position of the Executive Director of the Oregon Dental Association. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to move “home.” He grew up in NE Portland. We settled in West Linn and quickly fell in love with everything Oregon. After getting settled in, I decided to take a job as a Preschool Teacher at Resurrection Catholic Preschool & Kindergarten in Tualatin. After four years of happily teaching the littles, I decided it was time to find my true place.
I began searching for a company where I could hang my hat and grow in the years to come. That decision lead to Serra Coate and NW Staffing Clackamas. The minute I sat down to interview with Serra and Corrie, I new this was something special and that I’d found my home.
What has made you pursue a career in sales?
I’m a true people person. I love networking and creating relationships. When I believe in something, the way I believe in our team, I can’t help but shout it from the roof tops. We’re here to make others lives easier and this is a product I WANT to sell.
What are 3 things you love most about working in staffing? What are 3 things that feel challenging about working in staffing?
- We truly HELP people. So many hiring mangers are stressed beyond belief. We come in and take the stress away!
- We help great people find jobs! It’s seriously so heartwarming.
- It’s exciting! You never know what will unfold in a day; no two Monday’s are ever the same!
- Simply getting my foot in the door can take a lot of time and patience, but I’m in it for the long haul.
- We often work our tails off for a client and our candidates aren’t chosen (for whatever reason). It can be frustrating, but we’ve got to keep on keeping on. What’s meant to be will be.
- Competing with other Staffing Agencies… at the end of the day, we’re the best, so it’s not actually a competition.
What advice would you give your 20 year old self when it comes to career advice?
Be patient. Never stop learning. Always be true to yourself. Be open to new opportunities and don’t be afraid, you’ve got this! Life will throw you many curve balls, stay steady, stay strong and always follow your heart. Your time will come- all you’ve learned will lead you where you’re meant to be.
What’s some of the best advice you’ve received from someone else about work, careers etc.?
Sometimes the fear won’t go away, so you will have to do it afraid. -Corrie (best advice ever)
What do you love doing in your free time?
I love to hang out with my family and friends. My kids are 13 years old now and super busy playing tons of sports! We’re always on the go, so not much free time. We make the most of the time we do get! We binge watch awesome shows, have family movie night, love to eat out and go to concerts!
What is one personal goal you have for yourself in 2020?
To help grow the Clackamas branch and our team.
